Writing

We are proud to have a very broad approach to the development of writing skills

We are proud to have a very broad approach to the development of writing skills within each cohort. The curriculums we use support each child to progress on their personalised writing journey and to develop independent skills in this area. We use a variety of approaches including holistic writing, Picture First, labelling with symbols, electronic writing, sensory mark-making etc. These approaches are used 1:1, in small groups or whole class, depending on the needs of each child. The writing process is modelled and scaffolded, with each child receiving the support they need to succeed.

Writing is a cross-curricular skill and our Adventurer and Pioneer cohorts engage with writing for a range of purposes e.g. recipes, poetry, science reports, diary entries etc. For our Discoverer and Explorer cohorts, we link writing activities to topic / children’s interests, where appropriate.
