Science is a multi-sensory and exciting subject taught using the expertise of our teachers in eliciting maximum engagement from our pupils.

A rolling 4 year topic cycle ensure that teaching and learning has breadth and balance across all scientific stands with investigation at the heart of all. From materials to electricity, life cycles to light and dark, developing scientific curiosity through play, investigation or more formal learning allows each pupil to experience the awe and wonder at the world around them.  Investigation and exploration develop their understanding of the world themselves and how it and we works.

We have a wide range of resources to ensure all our cohorts needs have stimulating experiences. We utilise our sensory rooms (dark room, light room, cookery room) and outdoor learning environments to illustrate that science is everywhere! Pupils love exploring the “how’s” and “whys” of the world, and we at Herons Dale, allow for opportunities of scientific enquiry and curiosity every day informally and where appropriate in formal lessons too.
