We are proud of our reading rich environments throughout the school that are accessible to each of our cohorts, allowing for increasing independence in this important skill. Reading strategies are bespoke for each pupil; our formal and some semi-formal learners have their own reading record which identifies what reading skills they are learning, and this is used alongside others strategies including reading through play, print-rich environments, 1:1 sessions, group guided reading and regular discreet learning. Reading is also an intrinsic part of cross curricular teaching. There are many strategies we use to teach reading which include precision teaching, phonics, whole word reading, the use of ORT (Oxford Reading Tree) and POPs (Plenty of Potential) books as well as pre reading strategies for our engaging learners.
