ART AND DT

At Herons Dale School we are keen to make our children aware of the importance of Arts in their everyday lives

At Herons Dale School we are keen to make our children aware of the importance of Arts in their everyday lives and to equip them with the knowledge and skills to express themselves, experiment, create and develop personal tastes and preferences. Similarly, our DT provision ensures we provide our learners with the skills to plan, create, problem solve and evaluate. This is linked to life skills, their own interests, and key skills taught through a broad and balanced curriculum.

Children access art through child-led and directed sessions throughout the school, linked to topic and their own interests, and we are proud to display children’s work around our school. Our Art curriculum encompasses a huge variety of differing resources and very practical “hands on learning”, not just in the classroom, but also through our sensory rooms.  Our curriculum is carefully planned to engage and excite all our learners, through a broad range of mediums, including drawing, painting, 3D work, collage, printing, textiles, sculpture, woodwork, junk modelling and photography.
